FAQs

When purchasing our butterfly explosion boxes, you assume all liability for who you choose to send the box to. Please be mindful of any potential shock or surprise they may cause. The concept behind the box is joyful and celebratory, however the box may not be suitable for everyone, always use your discretion

PLEASE NOTE: When lifting the lid off please ensure eyes and face is not directly over the box to avoid collision with the flying butterflies.

GENERAL

How many butterflies fit inside each box?

Up to eight butterflies can fit inside the exploding gift box. However, we recommend four to eight, to ensure maximum effect when flying out of the box.

Do the butterflies come already wound up and ready to fly?

No the butterflies are not already wound up. Instructions are provided in the individual packaging and you will need to place them in the sides of the box, as per the instructions. The box will accommodate four to eight butterflies, in the folding sides of the box.

How do they work?

Each butterfly functions by using a central rubber band that is wound to a tension that allows the butterflies wings to turn and take flight. When the butterflies are wound to a reasonably tight tension, they are placed in each side of the fold out box. Gently prise the lid to the edge of the box before lifting off the box. The sides of the box will fall open and the butterflies will take flight. Please watch our videos on YouTube. The maximum number of butterflies that fit inside a box is eight. We recommend purchasing eight butterflies for maximum effect and impact. The box must be on a flat surface when the lid is lifted to ensure the sides fall equally and the butterflies fly.

SAFETY IS IMPORTANT: It is imperative that your face is not directly over the lid of the box when it is lifted for your safety and to ensure a clear flight path for the butterflies. You assume all responsibility when using this product.

What are the butterflies made of?

The wings are made of durable lightweight paper and the frame is plastic with a rubber band for functionality. Each butterfly is extremely fragile and if not treated correctly, can break.

The butterflies didn’t fly, what happened?

Each butterfly is trajected by rubber bands in the middle which are essentially the mechanics of the flight. If the butterflies are not wound correctly, they will fail to fly and if the placement of each butterfly is not sitting just above the fall down side to promote ease of release from within it panel it may become ‘stuck’ and not fly at all. It is imperative that each butterfly is wound up enough before releasing them from the box. If you are unsure how to do this, please watch our videos on YouTube. The butterflies supplied are the same as the ones in the video. 

When the butterflies don’t fly, it may be because they:

  • are not wound up enough, 
  • are wound up too much, 
  • incorrectly positioned in the box (the butterflies need to be positioned so that the tip of the wings are just above the height of the fall down side so that the wings do not get stuck or trapped in the other side panel of the box).
  • the box was not on an elevated surface when the lid was lifted (see you tube videos of box in an elevated position). 

IMPORTANT TIPS 

  1. To ensure the butterflies fly successfully, the Explosion Box MUST be placed in an ELEVATED position on a FLAT surface for the big reveal. I have used an upside-down vase or a cylindrical canister/bowl that is just smaller than the base/box surface area to provide height.
  2. Butterflies must be sitting just above the fall down side to promote ease of release to stop them from getting ‘stuck’ and not fly.

What do I do if one of the butterflies in my order is broken?

In the unlikely event that this occurs does, please keep the broken butterfly in its original packaging and contact us immediately. Send us an email with the details and a photo, to sales@butterflyreveal.au and we will arrange a replacement. Please make sure that all butterflies received are in working order, within three days of your parcel arriving.

How big are the butterflies?

The butterflies are approximately 12 centimetres wide x 11 centimetres high.

Are the butterflies printed on both sides?

Both sides of the wings are printed symmetrically and replicate real butterflies.

Does the Explosion Box come with a greeting card?

The explosion box does not come with a greeting card. However, cards are available on our website as an additional option. Our range of greeting cards can be found when completing the checkout.

Is the Explosion Box decorated?

The box is white and is not decorated by us in any way. The reason for this is to allow you the opportunity to place your own finishing touches and to create a unique keepsake for any special occasion or event.

I have chosen the ‘Build Your Own’ Explosion Box and I would like to place some photos on the box. Is this possible?

Yes of course it is. There are a total of 12 panels on the box, 3 of each on all of the 4 sides. The outer box panels measure 15cm x 15cm, the middle panel measures 14cm x 14cm, the inner panel measures 12.5cm x 12.5cm. The inside of the lid measures 15cm x 15cm. Special photos can transform the box from a white ‘canvas’ to a work of art, a special memory to a walk down memory lane. For inspiration, please see our ideas on videos on YouTube.

Can I use the Exploding Box more than once?

Absolutely! You can use them over and over again if you have not altered the state of the box in any way. For example, you could glue photos to the panels - See inspiration on YouTube . The reason we love this product so much is that they are safe for the environment and are sustainable. Reusing the box for another celebration or placing a butterfly in a card – the options are endless! See more inspiration on YouTube

How long do the butterflies last?

The butterflies should last several years, if kept in clean dry packaging and are looked after. The rubber bands will need replacing as it will perish over time.

ORDERING

How can I place an order?

Ordering is so easy! Once you have selected the box you would like, add it to your cart. You will also see some add-on options available to you, in a pop-up window. Once you are ready to checkout, go to your cart and enter your delivery details.

Can I make a modification to my order once it has been placed?

We process your order within 24 hours of it being placed, so we are unable to guarantee any changes. However, if you do need to make a change, please email us at sales@butterflyreveal.au and we will endeavour to meet your requirements, if possible. Please ensure you let us know within 48 hours of placing your order, so we are able to ship your products to you in a timely manner. An administration fee may be applied for any changes you make, after your original order. We will advise you, if this is the case.

Am I able to customise an order?

Yes, definitely! Customisation is available and there are many ways you can be creative with the Exploding Box. There is an option at the checkout stage to select adjustments from the traditional packages. If you choose the Build Your Own kit, you are then able to add your own personalised changes to the box to suit the person you are giving it to. Adding photographs and personal touches make the box incredibly special for the big day.

I need a box for a twins reveal! Can I have pink and blue butterflies for my order?

How exciting! In the event of a twins reveal or multiple birth reveal, please send us an email at sales@butterflyreveal.au and we will endeavour to meet your requirements for the special day.

I’ve left my order to the last minute! Can I still place an order with you?

We accept orders up to 24 hours in advance. Please let us know if you have any time constraints when you place your order. Unfortunately, we do not offer same day dispatch.

Can I order multiple boxes for different addresses?

No. All orders need to be made as one order and have one delivery address. If you require multiple boxes for different addresses, please send us an email - sales@butterflyreveal.au and we will endeavour to meet your needs.

SHIPPING and DELIVERY

How long does it take to ship my order? Where do you ship from?

We process all of our orders from our office on the Gold Coast. Orders are usually processed within 24 hours of your order being placed – excluding weekends and public holidays. Once your order has been processed and carefully packed, it will be shipped through Australia Post and their courier network. Shipping times may vary, however your order should arrive within seven business days. Please Note: We dispatch orders Monday – Friday but our couriers do not process deliveries over the weekend. Orders for Friday dispatch will be held over by the courier until the following Monday.

Do you do same day delivery?

Unfortunately, we do not offer same day delivery.

What are your delivery fees?

Our delivery costs are calculated by weight and cubic measure of ech individual box. Rates are calculated and governed by Australia Post. Within Australia, delivery costs vary from state to state and will be added at checkout.

Do you ship Internationally?

We do not ship Internationally outside of Australia.

Will my package be tracked?

All packages are sent by Australia Post and have an individual tracking number assigned to each individual parcel. Customers will be sent tracking information once the package is processed through Australia Post. Tracking is not our responsibility but the responsibility of the dispatch carrier, Australia Post.

What happens if I’m not at home when my package arrives?

If you are not at home when delivery is due, the courier driver is able to leave your package in a safe, dry place. If this is not possible, the package will be returned to the nearest Australia Post Office and you will be notified the same day. If your package is not collected within a reasonable timeframe, the package will be returned to us and we will endeavour to notify you if this occurs.

What do I do if I haven’t received my order?

If you haven’t received your order within seven business days, please send us an email through our Contact Us page and we will investigate it for you. All packages are sent with Australia post and have tracking assigned to each individual parcel. Customers will be sent tracking information once the package is processed through Australia Post.

I didn't receive all the items I ordered, what can I do?

We pride ourselves on our attention to detail, however, in the unlikely event that your order was not complete, please get in touch with us via email - sales@butterflyreveal.au so that we can help investigate for you. Please include any relevant images to assist us in helping you.

Can I cancel my order?

Yes, we understand that circumstances can change at the last minute, however, orders can only be cancelled PRIOR to dispatch. Orders that are already prepared, dispatched or in transit cannot be canceled or refunded. Cancellation of any order incurs a $20.00 administrative fee, regardless of box value. Your order will be refunded minus this fee.

REFUNDS

What is your return / refund policy?

All orders are final and non-refundable unless there has been a mutually agreed cancellation. Once an order has been dispatched, we are unable to accept any returns or exchanges. Please contact us at sales@butterflyreveal.au to resolve.

OTHER IDEAS and USES

What else can I use the explosion box and butterflies for?
  • The white boxes can be re-purposed after your reveal for other special occasions or events such as Christenings, Baptisms, Mother’s Day, Birthdays, Christmas, etc. Your opportunities are as endless as your imagination, inspirations and ideas.
  • The butterflies will fit inside any standard 5x7 (or larger) greeting card, when flat. Add a wound up butterfly to a card and watch it flutter out when opened.
  • The butterflies will fit inside a book box or cut our book (6x8). Add a wound-up butterfly to and watch it flutter out when opened.
