I came to this idea when I was recently planning my son’s gender reveal party and I couldn’t find a ‘theme’ to base the reveal around. The 'teacher' in me went looking for a butterfly theme as I loved the idea of butterflies meaning new beginnings and I just couldn’t find anything… there was nothing in Australia that did what I had in my head or what I wanted.
It was important to me to try and do something for the reveal that was environmentally friendly and no mess and this too was almost impossible. The only ‘retail’ gender reveal ideas were big black exploding balloons filled with pink or blue confetti, glitter, and shiny paper (I was not a fan of all the coloured ‘glitter and confetti’ having to be cleaned up) and coloured chalk powder bomb being let off. Again, I was not a fan of having to clean up the mess after the reveal.
Not being a fan of the ‘traditional ways’, I went on a hunt to see if I could find what I wanted. I had the idea of beautiful pink or blue butterflies fluttering and flying everywhere in my mind (depending on the gender to be revealed blue or pink) and this also met the brief of no mess to clean up and reusable and environmentally friendly.
